Warning: That free PDF converter site is probably mining crypto on your laptop
I found this out the hard way last month when my fan started screaming after trying to convert a single 3 page document. My buddy who works in IT took one look at the site I was using and laughed. He showed me the CPU usage hitting 90% nonstop while the site was open. Now I just use the built-in print to PDF feature in Chrome and my laptop actually stays quiet. Anyone else ever caught a site doing something shady in the background?

Print to PDF is actually a built in Windows feature too, not just Chrome.

The print to PDF option in Windows 10 and 11 shows up as "Microsoft Print to PDF" in the printer list, I use it all the time for saving receipts. @gonzalez.wesley is right that it's not just a Chrome thing, it's been in Windows since at least the 2018 update. I usually hit Ctrl+P, pick that printer, and it saves a clean PDF right to my desktop. Way faster than scanning stuff with my phone.
