Wasted $85 on a 'smart' outlet that needed a hub I didnt know about

Bought this fancy outlet at Best Buy last Saturday cause it said 'app controlled' on the box. Got home, set it up, and the app told me to connect a hub thing that cost another $50 and needed its own setup. Returned it the next day but it felt like such a trap. Has anyone else been burned by hidden requirements like that?

Oh man that's the worst. I mean it's one thing if they just messed up the listing but it feels shady when it's clearly intentional. Makes you wonder what else they're not being straight about.
