Why does nobody talk about how much data Google Maps actually eats
I ran into my data cap last month after a road trip from Cleveland to Columbus and found out Google Maps was chewing through 2.3GB just for navigation. Checked my phone settings and couldn't believe it. Has anyone found a way to cut that down without losing real-time traffic?

My buddy Dave drove from Columbus to Cincinnati last month and hit the same wall. He showed me his data usage and Maps ate up 1.8GB in just over two hours. He tried downloading Ohio maps offline and turned off satellite view, but then he lost live traffic updates and got stuck in a construction zone for an extra 45 minutes. Has anyone found a middle ground that works?

Yeah, @charles508's buddy basically discovered Google's evil plan to make us choose between data and traffic hell.
