I finally cracked grandma's pie crust recipe after 4 tries

I always thought her secret was lard, but I found a note in her old cookbook saying she used cold vodka instead of water. My last test came out flaky like hers for the first time. Anybody else get surprised by a hidden ingredient in a family recipe?

Calling it now - the vodka just evaporates and leaves nothing but a dry crust.
