I finally saw what happens when you double the baking soda in a cookie recipe after 12 years of making them the same way

My aunt’s sugar cookies went from flat and chewy to puffy and cakey overnight just because I added an extra half teaspoon, and now I can't go back to the old version, has anyone else accidentally changed a staple recipe and stuck with the new way?

Oh man, did I ever mess with my grandma’s banana bread recipe on accident and now I can't go back. I was trying to make it healthier so I swapped out half the butter for applesauce and it came out so moist and tender I felt like a baking genius. But really I was just being lazy and didn't want to go to the store. Now I do it every time even though it's probably not what she would want. My family actually refuses to eat the old dry version now so I guess I'm stuck with my accidental improvement forever.

oh man i did the exact same thing with my mom's chili recipe years ago. she always used ground beef and beans and i was trying to stretch it out so i added a can of black beans i had lying around. ended up making it super thick and hearty and now my whole family asks for it specifically that way. i feel kinda guilty cause it's not the "real" recipe but honestly it tastes way better. my mom just laughs and says i improved it so i guess it's fine. the applesauce thing is genius though, i tried that with muffins once and they were dangerously moist.
