Just got back from a potluck where everyone brought the same dish
I went to a family reunion in Des Moines last Saturday and 7 out of 12 people brought some version of baked beans with bacon. Are we all just defaulting to the same safe recipes, or is there a secret list of crowd-pleasers nobody told me about? Who wins in your family, the bean loyalists or the wildcard casserole people?

...and honestly that tracks with what @fionaa35 said, people just go with what they know works. Last year my cousin brought a funeral potato casserole and it sat there untouched next to three different bean dishes. The bean loyalists always win in my family, pure comfort over creativity every time.
