Learned a trick for fluffier rice at my aunt's kitchen in Memphis

I was at my aunt's place last Thanksgiving and she said her rice always comes out perfect because she rinses it three times in cold water before cooking. I always just dumped it in the pot straight from the bag, but after trying her way my rice isn't sticky anymore. She also adds a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of butter to the water before boiling. Anyone else have a simple step that made a big difference in your cooking?

Nah that rinsing just washes away the flavor, try toasting your rice in butter first.

Oh man, @jade226 I think I need to try your butter toasting thing because I've been rinsing my rice like crazy and I'm still out here burning it sometimes. I mean I literally burnt rice last week and my smoke alarm went off, which is pretty embarrassing for someone who claims to cook. But seriously though, I tried the rinsing trick and it does help with stickiness, but now I'm wondering if I'm just making my rice bland while setting off the smoke detector for nothing. Maybe the real answer is just accept that my rice will always be a disaster and order takeout instead.
