My tweak to Nana's lasagna recipe caused a family argument

Last week, I swapped ricotta for cottage cheese in my nana's lasagna. My mom says it's sacrilege to change it, but I think it tastes just as good and is cheaper. Do you guys stick to the original recipes or feel free to modify them?

Calling it sacrilege seems a bit much for a cheese swap, don't you think? It's just lasagna, not some holy text that can't be touched (though I get family recipes feel special). People tweak recipes all the time based on what they have or like, and that's how new family favorites start. Honestly, if it tastes good and saves money, who's really getting hurt here? Food should bring people together, not start fights over cottage cheese.

Last summer, I made my mom's lasagna but only had cottage cheese on hand. I mixed it with one egg and some dried basil to fix the texture. It baked up SO creamy and my picky cousin asked for seconds. Now that swap is our standard because it saves cash and tastes great. Family recipes should adapt over time, honestly. The goal is sharing a meal, not policing ingredients.

Man, I feel this so hard. My aunt once gave me the silent treatment for a week because I used turkey in her meatball recipe. It's wild how a simple swap can feel like a personal attack to some folks. Your version sounds perfectly fine to me, especially if it saves money and still gets eaten.
