Warning: Don't let your grandma's recipe die with her
I was at my aunt's house last Thanksgiving and she asked me to write down my grandma's biscuit recipe. She said 'I've been trying to eyeball it for 5 years and they never taste right.' That hit me hard because I realized I'd never actually written it down either. I spent that whole afternoon sitting at her kitchen table writing out every little detail - the buttermilk temperature, the exact fold count, everything. Has anyone else had to scramble to preserve a family recipe before it was too late?

Honestly, "the exact fold count" is a game changer. I need to do that for my nana's pie crust.

Totally! It's like how nobody writes down their phone numbers anymore until they lose one.

Nana's pie crust is sacred. Got the recipe from my grandma last year. She had it memorized, no written down stuff. I tried three times, crust kept coming out like cardboard. Finally called her up, she's like "you using cold butter? And don't overwork it." That was the trick. Folding count probably matters too honestly.
