What's the right call when a family recipe just doesn't work anymore?

My grandmother's biscuits were legendary in our family, but last Thanksgiving they came out like hockey pucks even though I followed her handwritten recipe exactly. Did I mess up somehow, or is it time to admit the recipe needs updating and start adapting it with modern flour and butter?

Honestly, that's rough, I totally feel for you. Ngl, you're probably not messing up, it's more like the ingredients themselves have changed over time.
