Bought a $300 forge welder and returned it after week one
My old timer mentor showed me how to scarf weld on a coal forge and now I see why the guys who learned in the 60s laugh at these expensive electric setups, anyone else ditch the high tech gear after seeing the real deal work?

Stuck with coal after trying gas, never looked back once.

The "never looked back" part really hits home for me. I switched to gas for a whole winter a few years back and ended up spending way more money for less heat, plus it just didn't feel the same. There's something solid and reliable about coal that once you get used to it, everything else feels like a downgrade.
