Had a bad case of quarter cracks on a horse in Bend, tried a new glue method

This gelding had a deep quarter crack on his front left. Owner said it kept opening up no matter what they did. I was about to put a full bar shoe on it, which felt like overkill. Instead, I mixed up some Equi-Thane Super Fast adhesive, the kind with the purple label. Cleaned the crack out with acetone, really got in there. Then I packed the glue deep into the split, not just on top. Held the hoof wall together with a clamp for a full 90 seconds, like the tube said. Let it set for a full day before I even touched a rasp. That was three months back. Just saw the horse last week and the crack is totally grown out, solid as a rock. No special shoe needed. Anyone else use this glue-in-the-crack trick for bad quarter cracks?

Always thought you had to shoe those out, but that glue method really does the trick.

Yeah that glue trick works way better than I expected. I tried it on a pair of old Red Wings I got from a thrift store in Detroit last year. The soles were barely hanging on but the uppers were still solid. I used some Barge cement I had leftover from another project and it held up through a whole winter of walking through salt and slush. The key is you gotta clamp them tight for at least 24 hours or the sole will peel off again.
