Lost a shoe on the roadside last week and had to improvise

I was driving back from a job in Lancaster when a shoe I put on that morning came off on the shoulder of a busy two-lane road. Had to pull over and nail it back on with a borrowed hammer from a nice guy in a pickup truck. Anyone else ever had to do field repairs in a sketchy spot like that?

I mean, the part about "had to pull over and nail it back on" really got me. It's funny how we just accept that the world is full of random stuff like borrowing a hammer from a stranger to fix a shoe on a fast road. Maybe it's just me but lately I've been noticing how much of life is basically just improvising with whatever's around you. Like, we all pretend we have everything figured out but really we're just nailing shoes back on by the side of the road and hoping nobody asks too many questions. That's kind of the whole deal with being an adult I think.

lol @tyler_white42 that part about "nailing shoes back on by the side of the road" really stuck with me too. But I gotta say, nobody's mentioned how weird it is that the person who stopped had a hammer just sitting in their truck. Like, think about it. That guy made a choice that morning to put a hammer in his truck and drive around with it. He was prepared for exactly this kind of random nonsense. Most people would've just driven past and thought "dang, that person's shoe is broke." But he had the tool and the willingness to stop. That's what's wild to me. We're all just one hammer-carrying stranger away from getting back on the road, and that's kind of beautiful in a dumb way.
