Old timer told me I was filing too slow, changed my whole routine
I was out in Ocala last month shoeing a big thoroughbred and this 70 year old farrier watched me work for like 10 minutes then said 'you're polishing horseshoes, not filing them, kid.' Turns out I was taking way too many passes with the rasp trying to make it perfect, now I just go fast and aggressive and it holds better. Has anyone else gotten a simple tip like that that totally flipped their approach?

Nah, I gotta push back on that a little... "roll the toe on you" happens when you're careless, not when you're aggressive. I've been going hard and fast for about 8 years now, and I've actually found that taking fewer aggressive passes keeps the toe straighter because you're not hovering there making micro adjustments that mess up the alignment. It's like ripping a bandaid off, you know? Just commit to the cut. Old timer told me the same thing and I haven't looked back since.
