Old timer told me to ditch my rasp between horses and just use a wire brush instead

I tried it for a week and ended up with a dull rasp that wouldn't cut clean, so I'm back to wiping it down with a wet rag after each horse like I always did.

Bet that old timer's got a whole drawer of dull rasps he swears are "broken in just right.

My grandpa used to say there's a right tool for every job and a wrong way to use every tool. I've seen guys go through a rasp in a month with that wire brush method, just grinding the teeth down to nothing. A wet rag takes twenty seconds and keeps the metal from glazing over with dirt and grease. That old timer probably never had to buy his own tools, or he just doesn't care about wasting money on new ones every few weeks.
