PSA: I bought a cheap hoof stand from an online auction and it snapped after two uses, costing me $85 and a whole morning.
Has anyone found a good budget brand that actually holds up, or is it just worth saving for the expensive ones?

Honestly, the real cost there was your whole morning. That's the part you can't get back. I've seen those auction stands, they're often factory seconds or rejects for a reason. Saving up for a known brand might feel painful once, but breaking a cheap one is painful over and over. You end up paying in time and frustration, not just cash.

Wait but sometimes that gamble is the whole point though. I mean yeah it might break fast, but you get to try a thing you couldn't afford otherwise. If it lasts a year, you won. Known brands are crazy overpriced just for the name. My time feels better spent chasing a deal than just accepting I'll never have nice stuff.

Oh man, I'm gonna disagree hard here. That whole morning you lost is actually priceless and totally worth it if you learned something. I'd rather blow $85 on garbage twice and figure out what not to buy than drop $300 on something I'll barely use.
