TIL my old boss in Boise was right about letting a horse stand for a full 30 minutes after a trim before judging the footfall.

I saw a night and day difference in a mare's gait after I finally listened and waited, which completely changed how I approach my final rasp work now, so what's one old-school tip you guys actually swear by?

My grandpa always said to soak a hoof for 20 minutes before nailing a shoe.

Whoa, 20 minutes?! I'd be out there with a stopwatch and everything.

He's right, it softens the hoof wall and makes the nails drive cleaner. Just use a bucket of clean water, no need for anything fancy.
