Watched a guy explain how he sets nails and realized I been gripping my hammer way too tight for 6 years

My right elbow ached after every job and then this old timer at a clinic in Boise showed me how relaxing your grip lets the hammer do the work, now I got no pain and I feel like an idiot for not figuring it out sooner, anyone else have that one dumb habit they just never questioned?

Yeah that loose grip trick saved my elbow too, took me way too long to learn it!

I get what you're saying @kevin_wells46 but honestly I tried the loose grip thing and it just didn't click for me... felt like I had no control over where the nail was going, kept bending them over sideways and having to pull them out, so I went back to choking up on the handle a bit and just taking shorter swings, my elbow still hurts sometimes but at least my nails are straight
