A woman at the Portland farmers market stopped me to ask about my jacket

I was wearing a sample piece I made from some old canvas and a thrifted wool lining. She said, 'I love how the collar stands up on its own, it looks like it has a story.' We talked for maybe ten minutes about how I'd used a mix of machine and hand stitching on the seams. It was the first time someone really looked at the details of my work, not just the whole thing. That small comment made me feel like I was on the right track with my design choices. Has anyone else had a random moment like that give them a boost?

Ngl, reminds me of this time I was on the bus and a guy noticed my hand-sewn patches on a worn-out denim jacket. He said the zigzag thread reminded him of his grandmother's sewing basket. We ended up chatting about vintage stitch patterns for like fifteen minutes. @gray_nelson would probably say that's too much talk about thread but those random connections hit different.

That "it looks like it has a story" comment is so good. I had a guy at a coffee shop notice the patched elbow on my favorite sweater and ask how I did it. We talked about darning for a bit and it just made my whole week, lol. Those little moments really do stick with you.
