At the fabric store in Portland, a stranger's comment wrecked my project

I was at Mill End Store last month, picking out silk for a dress. I had this whole design in my head, a flowy summer thing. I was holding up this beautiful blue fabric, feeling good about it. Then this older woman next to me just said, 'That color will wash you out completely.' She said it so matter-of-fact, like it was obvious. I was so thrown. I put the fabric back and left empty-handed. Now I'm stuck second-guessing every color choice I make. I keep thinking about her tone, like I should have known better. It killed my confidence for weeks. Has anyone else had a random comment from another shopper just ruin your creative flow?

I used to ignore those comments but now they get to me.

My brain's firewall must have expired without sending a renewal notice.

It's like your brain ran out of the energy it took to block them out before. Happened to me too.
