I was looking at old sewing patterns and found out something wild about zippers
I was digging through a box of vintage patterns from the 1960s at a thrift store in Phoenix. I noticed a lot of them had metal zippers, which got me curious about when plastic ones took over. I looked it up later and found out that the big switch from metal to plastic coil zippers in everyday clothes didn't really happen until the 1970s. Before that, they were mostly metal or the expensive nylon kind. It's funny to think how a small thing like a zipper type can totally date a garment's construction. Has anyone else found a detail like that that helps you spot a garment's era?

Yeah, zippers totally date things. I always check the side seams on jeans.

My mom still has a jacket with one of those giant metal zippers from the 80s. It feels like you're operating heavy machinery when you try to zip it up. Some design choices really do stick around forever, don't they?
