Question about using old car seatbelt webbing for a bag strap
Last month I cut up a salvaged seatbelt from a 2004 Civic and found the nylon weave is perfect for a tough crossbody strap, but it frays like crazy unless you melt the ends with a lighter first.

Wait, you're melting nylon webbing with an open flame?

Actually, melting the cut ends is standard practice to stop fraying. It works on many synthetic fabrics, not just webbing. The key is a quick, light touch with a lighter, not holding a flame to it. Done right, it just seals the fibers without weakening the main strap. A soldering iron made for this gives more control, but a lighter in a pinch gets the job done.

You just use a regular lighter for that?
