Serious question, is it better to design for trends or for timeless style?

I was reading about the designer Claire McCardell and found out she basically invented the 'American Look' in the 1940s with pieces like the popover dress. The crazy thing is, a museum in Maryland has one of her original designs that still looks modern today. That got me thinking, should we focus on making clothes that fit right now or clothes that last for years? What's your take on this balance?

What if the real goal is designing for how clothes feel to move in, not just how they look?

That idea about designing for how clothes feel to move in is huge. Are you talking about things like where seams are placed or how much stretch a fabric has? I'd love to hear what makes something feel good to move in for you.

Honestly, read this article about how some brands just chase trends and burn out. Tbh designing for timeless style seems way smarter if you want people to actually keep your stuff.
