And then you check the selvage and realize it was printed slightly off grain the whole time, so none of your measuring even mattered.

Feel you @noah248, I once measured twice and cut once but the fabric had other plans anyway.

Pulling a thread across the grain to find the true line saved me on a similar project @noah248. I started starching the fabric BEFORE cutting and it made a WORLD of difference in keeping things straight. That trick alone turned my next skirt from a disaster to a perfect hang.
