That thing I heard at the fabric warehouse about bias cuts

I was at the fabric warehouse on Industrial Ave last Saturday and overheard this older guy telling a student that most beginners mess up bias cuts because they don't account for the fabric stretching after it's cut. He said you need to let the cut pieces rest for about 24 hours before you sew them, especially with rayon or jersey knits. I tried it on a skirt I was making and honestly the hem didn't warp or dip weird like my last three projects did. Has anyone else tried the rest method or do you do something different with stretchy fabrics?

Oh yeah, "let your cut pieces rest for 24 hours" - like they just ran a marathon or something. I guess my impatient self would just have to stare at the fabric for a whole day before I can sew it. But hey, if it stops my hems from looking like a roller coaster, I'm in.

Huh, I used to think resting fabric was just a myth but now I'm totally converted.
