Threw away $150 on a dress pattern that was impossible to follow

I bought a vintage 1950s dress pattern off Etsy for $150 because it looked so elegant in the photos. Step by step, the instructions were just blurry photocopies with no markings where to sew the darts. After three evenings of frustration, I ended up cutting the fabric wrong and had to toss the whole thing. Has anyone else gotten burned by those reproduction patterns that don't include proper guides?
