TIL my favorite fabric shears got ruined cutting through a single layer of denim with a hidden rivet

Last Tuesday I was trimming excess on a pair of jeans I was patching up, and the blade hit something metal underneath that I didn't see until it was too late. Now I've got a tiny chip right near the pivot point that catches on everything. Anyone else ever wrecked a good pair of scissors on something unexpected?

Did you read that tip about using tin foil to test scissors before cutting?

Nah, that trick never works for me. Just dulls the foil and tells you nothing.
