Went to a thrift store in St. Louis and every single dress had the same 1980s shoulder pad problem
I was looking for some fabric to repurpose (you know, for a design project I've been picking at) and I swear every dress on the rack had those giant shoulder pads sewn in. Like someone went through and added them as a prank. Who thought that look was a good idea? I pulled out maybe 15 dresses and they all had them. Made me wonder if there's a better way to reshape vintage pieces without ruining the original cut. Has anyone found a trick for removing those pads without leaving holes?

Every dress had the same 1980s shoulder pad problem" - sounds like you stumbled on a time capsule someone donated all at once. For the holes thing, I've had luck using a tiny bit of fabric glue on the inside of the seam where the stitches were and pinching it closed while it dries.

Notices how everything from the past just hits different now, like we're all just finding new ways to patch up old stuff.
