Went to a vintage fabric warehouse in Philly last week and noticed something cool

They had all these old cotton blends from the 70s that felt way sturdier than anything I've touched at Joann lately. Has anyone else found better quality fabrics at weird old warehouses? I'm trying to figure out where to source tougher material for my jackets.

Yes, the 70s cottons are a whole different animal. They used a tighter weave and didn't cut corners on thread count like the big chains do now. Check out old upholstery warehouses too, I found some deadstock denim that's basically armor. You can feel the difference in the weight the second you pick it up, those old blends just hold their shape way better for a jacket that gets real wear.

I don't know, I've got a denim jacket from Target like five years ago and it's held up fine through washes and wear. Maybe I just lucked out but I feel like people act like modern clothes fall apart if you look at them wrong. That deadstock stuff is cool if you want to hunt it down, but for most people who just want a jacket that looks good and costs under $100, the new stuff works. Are we really acting like a tighter weave makes or breaks your whole outfit?
