Drove through rural Vermont last weekend and saw a fence line that made me question everything about how we set posts.

Some farmer had his posts set way deeper than usual with what looked like crushed stone instead of concrete and the whole thing was still straight as an arrow after what had to be 20 years, so has anyone else tried skipping concrete and using gravel packing instead?

Used to roll my eyes at those posts too but then I saw some really old ones in person and damn they were pretty intricate. Kinda get it now, the detail work is wild.
