Found a trick for concrete posts that saved my back on a job in Omaha

Been doing wood posts for 10 years but tried a concrete footing system with a plastic sleeve last month on a 200 foot run. The difference in dig time was huge, went from 6 hours of hole digging down to maybe 2 for the whole thing. Anybody else switch to those sleeve systems and notice a difference in how straight the posts stay after a freeze?

That "difference in dig time" you mentioned is exactly what got me curious about these systems. I tried one on a smaller job last fall, a little 50 foot run for a garden fence. Man, the ground was like concrete after a dry spell, and I was dreading the post hole digger. But here's the sideways part, I got so caught up in how fast the digging went that I forgot to check the level on the first three posts. Had to yank them out and redo the whole thing. Straightness after a freeze though, I can't say for sure because we had a super mild winter here. The ones I did get right stayed put fine, but I bet if we had a hard frost those sleeves might crack if the ground heaves wrong.

Man that's rough, did you use gravel in the holes to help with drainage?
