Had to choose between full steel posts and wood for a 400 ft run in Ohio
I was putting up a privacy fence last month on a farm just outside Columbus, the owner wanted something that wouldn't rot after a few wet seasons. I went with the steel posts even though they cost about 30% more because digging in that clay soil was a nightmare. What do you guys usually pick for wet ground like that?

Wood rots in Ohio clay eventually anyway, that's just a fact of life with damp soil sitting against it. Steel can rust too if you don't get the galvanized kind and it gets scraped up against those rocks you'll find everywhere out here. Did you go with treated wood or composite for the panels then?

Yeah steel posts with galvanized coating are the way to go for Ohio clay, it's like everything around here has to be built a little tougher just to survive the weather and ground conditions.
