Just found out a 5 foot gap in the corner can save you 30 minutes on leveling

I was setting posts on a sloped lot near Portland last Tuesday and kept fighting the string line. Looked up a forum post from a guy in Oregon who said leaving a 5 foot gap between posts at the corner lets you level each side separate. I tried it on my next section and cut my setup time by almost half. Any of you do this or stick to the old way?

That "5 foot gap" trick sounds interesting, but did it throw off your overall line at all?

The gap trick actually helped keep my line straight if anything. You just have to make sure your reference point is solid before you start filling in.

@michaels95 I gotta push back on this whole gap idea. Leaving a space like that just introduces another variable you gotta fight later, especially on a slope where everything's already moving. I've always pulled a tight string corner to corner and filled in from there, and I'd rather spend the extra 30 minutes upfront than chase a crooked line because my reference point had a hole in it.
