Saw a crew last month sinking posts without any gravel at the base

Ngl I don't get why people skip the drainage layer, my first fence rotted in under 4 years because I did that and now I always toss in 6 inches of crushed stone, has anyone else had to redo a job because the customer argued against it?

Because the customer argued against it" yeah that part gets me every time... I had a buddy who built a deck for this guy who insisted skipping the gravel was fine because "his dad never used it." Two winters later the whole thing started shifting and he had to rip up half the posts to redo them properly. The worst part is my buddy tried to warn him but the guy just kept saying he'd done it his way for 30 years... some people just have to learn the hard way I guess.

Got a similar story from when I helped my uncle pour a concrete slab for his shed. He was dead set on mixing the concrete by hand in a wheelbarrow because that's how his old man did it back in the day. Told him renting a mixer was 40 bucks and would save us hours but he wouldn't budge. We spent the whole weekend mixing batches and the slab ended up looking like a patchwork quilt with different shades of gray everywhere. He still brags about how he "saved money" but the thing has cracks running through it now from the inconsistent mix. Some folks just can't let go of the old ways even when the results speak for themselves.
