Spent 2 years setting posts with wet concrete before a job in Austin exposed my mistake
I was on a commercial fence job in Austin last July, setting posts like always - dumping dry mix in the hole and adding water. The foreman walked over and asked why I wasn't using a wheelbarrow to pre-mix. I thought I was saving time but he showed me the posts were shifting after 3 days because the mix wasn't consistent. Now I pre-mix everything in a wheelbarrow with a measured amount of water and my posts haven't budged. Has anyone else had a similar moment where you realized your whole method was off?

Had the same thing happen to me but with a backyard fence a few years back. Pre mixing in the wheelbarrow with the right water amount made a night and day difference, now I won't even touch dry mix anymore.

Ngl that's exactly what I started doing after my first few concrete disasters too. Honestly pre mixing in a wheelbarrow sounds like more work but it saves so much headache in the long run. Tbh I don't know why anyone would bother with dry mix on anything important now.
