Man, that line about "made me rethink my whole post hole approach" really hit me. Old timers like that have been doing this stuff since before we were born, so they know all the shortcuts and the right ways. I bet he told you something about tamping the dirt different or using a specific mix for the concrete. It's wild how one conversation can completely change how you look at something you thought you had figured out. I always try to listen when those guys start talking, even if it's just random advice on the job site.
