Overheard a guy at Starbucks giving his buddy stock tips from a horoscope app

I was grabbing coffee Tuesday morning and this dude was dead serious telling his friend to buy a random mining stock because his horoscope said Mercury was in a 'retrograde for gains.' The friend actually pulled up his phone to check the app. I nearly choked on my latte. Maybe I am overthinking my whole buy-and-hold strategy with boring index funds. Has anyone else seen people make moves based on something totally off the wall like astrology or a lucky coin?

My friend Kyle once swapped his whole IRA into penny stocks because a fortune cookie told him "big money flows from small beginnings." He took that as a sign to dump his boring 401k and chase some random biotech company. The stock tanked two days later and he lost like $3,000. Now he jokes that his financial advisor is a cookie, but he still checks his horoscope every morning. People will grab onto anything when they want a shortcut to getting rich quick.

Mercury in retrograde for gains" got me too, last week my crypto buddy bought doge because Mars was aligning with his moon sign.
