Pro tip: check your ETF dividend schedule before you assume you'll get paid monthly

I put $4,000 into a dividend ETF last January thinking I'd see a check every 30 days, but turns out it only pays quarterly and I missed the March cutoff by a week. Has anyone else gotten burned by not reading the fine print on payout dates?

Used to think dividend timing was basically automatic until I missed a payout window myself on a similar fund. That fine print really makes you double-check every schedule now.

...and then I found out the fund I picked only pays dividends once a year. Yeah I bought into some international REIT ETF thinking it would be a steady income stream. Turns out they pay out in December only. So I sat there for eleven months getting nothing. Now I check the fact sheet before I buy anything.
