Rant: The guy at the hardware store who told me to stop buying shredders

I was at Home Depot in Portland picking up a new shredder for my home office. I spent 20 minutes looking at the $80 cross-cut models. An older guy stocking shelves nearby just said, 'You're overpaying, just get a basic $30 strip-cut, it'll last 5 years.' I bought the cheap one and he was right. Has anyone else noticed that expensive shredders are just a waste of money for light use?

You ever hear about my buddy Mark? He bought a $200 shredder from some fancy office store, and it jammed up on day three because he put in five sheets instead of four... He took it back and got the $30 one from Walmart, still using it four years later with no issues. Sometimes simple really is better for the average person.

@the_gray same vibe as my $20 shop vac from the hardware store, cheap and indestructible for what I actually use it for.
