Walked into a bank in Denver and saw a literal goldfish tank as their savings display

I was at FirstBank off Colfax last Tuesday to deposit a check and they had this huge aquarium with a sign that said "Watch your savings grow." There was this massive goldfish that looked like it ate all the smaller ones. The teller told me they swap the fish out every 6 months when people withdraw too much. I almost laughed out loud but the manager was staring me down. Has anyone else seen banks do weird stunts like this to promote saving?

That bit about swapping the fish out every six months when people withdraw too much is brutal. I had a credit union near me in Tucson that kept a jar of pennies tied to a helium balloon that said "keep your savings afloat." It deflated after three days and they just left it hanging there for like a month. The funny thing is the branch manager actually got mad at me when I asked if they replaced the balloon based on my balance. Banks really do try to gamify savings in the weirdest ways, but the goldfish thing is a whole other level. I wonder if the fish get a retirement party when they get swapped out.

Oh man, that's rough about the balloon, I mean what a visual. But actually @holly_foster your question about the fish retirement party got me thinking. I bet the bank doesn't even have a plan for the old fish. They probably just flush them or give them to a teller's kid or something. It's kind of dark if you really think about it. The whole thing reminds me of that old scam where car dealers would replace the goldfish in the tank every time someone bought a car, except here it's the opposite, you get punished with a sad empty tank if you don't save enough.
