Can we talk about how my first boss said to dress up more than the job requires...
I showed up to my office assistant gig in a button-down and slacks, and on day three the regional manager pulled me aside and said 'you look like you're ready for my job, keep that up' - has anyone else gotten a weird career boost just from overdressing?

Didn't I read somewhere that dressing one level above your current role makes people see you as more competent? The same thing happened to me when I started wearing blazers to my data entry job, and suddenly my supervisor started asking my opinion on things. Sometimes looking the part actually gets you treated like you belong in a bigger spot.

Overdressing actually works subconsciously because it makes people assume you're already in the pipeline for something bigger, even if you just started. Your brain sees a blazer and automatically upgrades the person wearing it without you noticing. It's like a cheap shortcut to credibility that nobody talks about as a real tactic.
