Agree with @gavinh26, the lost feeling is the worst part. You just expect everything to work right and then you get slapped in the face with a penalty. That first real paycheck teaches you more than any class ever did. It's crazy how one small mistake can snowball into months of pain. But hey, you won't make that same mistake twice.

$300 is a tough pill to swallow. I had something similar happen with my first real job out of college (a local warehouse gig, of all places) where I messed up my W-4 and they withheld almost nothing for half the year. It came back to bite me hard at tax time, a real nasty surprise. The worst part was the feeling of being so lost and not knowing who to ask for help back then. You just assume the system works a certain way and then you learn the hard way that it really doesn't.
