One chat with an office manager changed how I think about asking questions
On my second week at a call center in Omaha I was too scared to ask my boss about a billing code. The office manager pulled me aside by the water cooler and said 'look, I'd rather you ask me 10 dumb questions than redo one order.' She showed me a shortcut in the system that saved me 20 minutes a day. Has anyone else had a coworker say something that just clicked and made you less nervous about looking stupid?

Man, my buddy's boss told him the same thing and it totally changed his whole approach.

Hearing that reminded me of when my uncle got the same advice from his old football coach and it totally flipped how he saw things. Funny how that works, @murray.cole.

Haven't you found that sometimes the simplest advice lands the hardest? I've seen the same thing happen - guys I've worked with get one piece of solid guidance and it completely reroutes their whole way of thinking. It's like when you're stuck in a rut and someone points out a different direction you never even considered. That kind of stuff sticks with you because it's real, not some fancy theory you read in a book. A good word at the right time can save you years of banging your head against the wall. Makes you wonder why more people don't just listen when they get that kind of help.
