Spent $150 on a white coat for my first nursing job and instantly regretted it

I thought I was being professional buying this expensive coat before orientation... turns out everyone just wears the cheap scrub jackets from the hospital gift shop. Mine got stained with coffee on day three and now I just grab the freebie ones from the supply closet. Anyone else blow money on something fancy that turned out to be totally unnecessary?

The "feeling professional" trap is real. I did the same thing with a fancy stethoscope my first year. Thing got misplaced twice and I finally caved and bought a cheap one off Amazon that works fine. Now the expensive one sits in my car for emergencies. Keep the coat for backup but live out of those supply closet jackets, they're way easier to replace when they get wrecked.

That "feeling professional" trap gets us all. It's like buying expensive gear for a hobby before you even know if you'll stick with it. Did you at least keep the receipt for a return?
