TIL that sending a quick 'got it' reply to my boss actually helped a lot

I started my first real office job 3 months ago at a small marketing firm in Portland. My boss sent me a project update email and I just replied "got it, thanks" without thinking much about it. Turns out she told my coworker later that she appreciates when I acknowledge her messages because it shows I'm on top of things. Now I try to do it within an hour of any task she sends my way. Does anyone else have tiny habits that made a big difference with their manager?

Wait, is that actually a thing? I always worried it would sound too short or dismissive but I guess it's better than leaving someone hanging.

That "got it, thanks" thing works because it stops the boss from wondering if you saw the message. I've seen plenty of people leave their managers hanging for hours on simple stuff, and that little bit of doubt adds up fast. The key is just being consistent, even on the boring updates, so they know you're paying attention without having to chase you.
