Warning: Why I stopped relying on my manager's "feedback" after 3 months

I had two approaches at my first real job. First I listened to everything my manager said about my performance and tried to match it. Then I started comparing his advice to what actually got results with customers and deadlines. Big difference. The manager kept telling me to slow down and check every detail, but the senior guy who trained me showed me how hitting 95% accuracy in half the time was better for everyone. Has anyone else found their manager's advice was actually hurting their workflow?

Whoa, that's a really good point - the gap between what managers say and what actually works. When you compared your manager's advice to the senior guy's method, what was the specific turning point that made you trust the results over the feedback?

Right? That was exactly it for me. Watching the senior guy's code actually deploy without breaking anything while the manager's perfect theory kept failing in production was the moment I stopped caring about the feedback.
