Bought a $300 cable management kit and it made things worse

I spent way too much on this fancy kit with velcro straps and clips for my home office desk, thinking it would fix the rat's nest behind my monitor. Instead, I spent three hours rerouting everything and ended up with a tangled mess that's somehow worse than before, plus the adhesive clips fell off after a day. Has anyone found a cheap trick that actually works for hiding cables without making you want to throw your keyboard?

A buddy of mine just used those black zip ties you can get for a few bucks at the hardware store, and he stuck the cables to the underside of his desk with command strips. Said it looked clean as a whistle and took maybe twenty minutes.

I heard somewhere that the command strips can actually leave a residue after a while if you ever decide to move them... might be worth testing on a small spot first.
