My neighbor's "ergonomic" setup was a lawn chair and a stack of phone books

Got to give the guy some credit for creativity at least, most people just suffer through back pain without trying anything. But phone books are actually genius if you think about it, they've got that perfect amount of squish and height adjustment. I knew a guy in the 90s who used old encyclopedias for the same thing, said it gave him that "scholarly posture" or whatever. The real trick is finding the right balance of books so your arms rest at a 90 degree angle, too many and you're looking down at your monitor like a owl. Lawn chairs do have that mesh back that breathes better than most office chairs I've paid way too much for, so maybe he's onto something.

The phone book height adjustment thing is EXACTLY what @taylor_mitchell80 was talking about. I actually read an article last week about how people used stacked books before ergonomic chairs were common, and it said the perfect height keeps your elbows at 90 degrees just like he mentioned. Guess that neighbor is more of a genius than we give him credit for.
