Showerthought: The real issue with most messy desks isn't the clutter itself, it's the lack of a designated landing zone for everyday carry items.
I noticed after driving for 10 hours and seeing my buddy's home office that his keys, phone, and mail were scattered across his whole desk, creating that chaotic look. Anyone else find that one small tray or hook near the door makes the biggest difference in keeping the main workspace clean?

so is the desk actually messy or are we just talking about the one pile of wallet-keys-phone that never found its home?

@jordan_webb49 I gotta gently push back on that "one pile" thing. In my experience, a messy desk usually has at least three piles - the "gonna deal with this later" pile, the "stuff I forgot existed" pile, and then the wallet-keys-phone pile you mentioned. So it's definitely messy, but maybe not like a hoarder situation or anything. Your mileage may vary though.
