Spent 4 hours chasing a squeak in a laminate floor job last Tuesday

Turned out it was just a tiny piece of debris under the underlayment near the door. I tore up three rows before I found it. Anybody else waste a whole afternoon on something that stupid?

Once spent two hours looking for a rattle that was just a dime I dropped.

The trick that finally worked for me was to stop looking and just sit still with the noise. I closed my eyes and focused on where the rattle was coming from in relation to my position. Then I moved my phone around like a metal detector pretty much just to narrow down the area. Turned out to be a loose coin wedged under the edge of my floor mat the whole time. Once I sat calmly and pinpointed the sound source it took maybe two minutes to find. That empty feeling of wasting hours on a rolling phantom noise is the worst though.
